2008’s 19 Kids and Counting was canceled in 2015, but the spinoff Counting On that premiered months later also featured the same big family.
Josh Duggar’s predatory and sexual abuse behavior is the reason the previous show was cancelled, and though the family claimed that they do not support such practices at the time, it wasn’t enough to save the first show. It’s not very clear at the moment if they could save this one.
Josh Duggar and the Fate of TLC’s Counting On
Josh Duggar has been known in the past for his infidelity and sexual abuse cases, and though he was reprimanded by the show at the time, it’s very slim to believe that the show will ever mention him again after being arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography.
When his first cases and accusations were made public, his wife, Anna, chose to stand by him and they worked through things together. The couple currently has six children together, with their seventh on the way.
He apologized at the time and promised to do better. Josh Duggar was already banned from the new show Counting On after admitting to watching porn and being unfaithful to his wife, and even though there was severe public hatred against him at the time, TLC chose to continue his family’s show.
In light of the recent charges against Josh Duggar, TLC quickly issued a statement, neglecting to add if it affected the series’ future or not: “TLC is saddened to learn about the continued troubles involving Josh Duggar. 19 Kids and Counting has not aired since 2015. TLC cancelled the show on the heels of prior allegations against Josh Duggar and he has not appeared on-air since then.”
There are speculations that since Josh Duggar hasn’t been involved with the show, it should continue, but then again TLC may still be testing the waters at this point.
As of May 2021 the show has not been renewed or canceled by TLC. The most recent episode was a Counting On special that aired in March 2021, which showcased the Duggars celebrating Easter along with glimpses of the birth of Kendra and Joseph Duggar’s third child.
The Duggar Family’s Response to Josh Duggar’s Arrest
“We appreciate your continued prayers for our family at this time. The accusations brought against Joshua today are very serious,” Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s joint statement on Friday reads.
“It is our prayer that the truth, no matter what it is, will come to light, and that this will all be resolved in a timely manner. We love Josh and Anna and continue to pray for their family,” they said addressing their child’s arrest on child pornography charges.
Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo and her husband Jeremy Vuolo, also spoke out about the recent news surrounding their brother/brother-in-law.
“We are disturbed to hear of the charges against Josh. While this case must go through the legal system, we want to make it clear that we absolutely condemn any form of child abuse and fully support the authorities and judicial process in their pursuit of justice.”
Another one of Josh’s sister Jill (Duggar) Dillard, also commented on his arrest, along with her husband, Derick Dillard. “We just found out this information yesterday,” the couple, who formerly disclosed that they’ve distanced themselves from the famous family, talked to PEOPLE on Friday. “It is very sad.”
