The hourlong television adaptation will be exec produced and written by Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle). The project is currently in the pilot stage and started production in Southern California.
The New Series Is Being Described As A “Fresh Approach” To Penny Marshall’s Film
The series will introduce new characters and will continue with the formation of the leagues in 1943. It will also follow the league and its players as they try to focus on their game amid close games, injuries, road trips, and sexual awakenings, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony Pictures TV will produce the series. In addition, Hailey Wierengo and pilot director Jamie Babbit will be among the show’s executive producers.
Amazon has already found its cast for the A League of Their Own comedy pilot. The cast also includes D’Arcy Carden (Greta), Chante Adams (Max), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Clance), Kelly McCormack (Jess), Melanie Field (Jo), Priscilla Delgado (Izzy), and Roberta Colindrez (Mita). Chante and Roberta have joined as season regulars. Chante previously appeared in Justin Simien’s film Bad Hair, which competed at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, according to the Deadline report.

Chante also stars in Universal and Stella Meghie’s Valentine’s Day film The Photograph opposite Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield. She will later star in Lionsgate’s feature film, Voyager, which was directed and written by Neil Burger. The iconic movie is hard to duplicate.
