Chad had wanted to get into a romantic relationship with Stephanie but he has been trying to find a way to move on from losing his wife Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller). Chad had gotten close to Stephanie because they had been working to help Paulina Price (Jackee Harry) to become governor. Paulina wanted Chad and Stephanie to help her to protect her daughter Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens). Paulina was being blackmailed by Sloan Peterson (Jessica Serfaty) because she had information that could send Chanel to prison. Chad had hoped to be the one to get the information for Stephanie but he was unable to get the information.

Stephanie was able to get the information from Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson). Chad knows that Alex wants to pursue a relationship with Stephanie but she has been reluctant to give Alex a chance to get to know her. Stephanie was impressed that Alex was able to help her and decided that she would start to date him. Chad had decided that he would tell Stephanie that he wanted to be her friend. Chad is beginning to regret his decision to remain friends with Stephanie.

Chad found out that his brother EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) had kidnapped Stephanie’s brother Dr. Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams). EJ had been trying to deal with Tripp’s mother Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun). EJ had been trying to save his mother Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) from Ava. EJ thought that he would be able to get Ava to return Susan to him to get Tripp back.

Chad was shocked when his brother Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) told him that EJ had kidnapped Tripp. Tony has convinced Chad to keep the fact that EJ kidnapped Tripp from Stephanie. Chad has agreed to keep the information to himself but he knows that Stephanie will be upset to find out that EJ had kidnapped Tripp. Chad hopes that he will not lose his friendship with Stephanie because he did not tell her the truth about EJ and Tripp.
