Days of Our Lives comings and goings reveal a brand-new face for a character who has been around for decades as Will Utay is replaced as Dr. Rolf.

It was 1997 when Will Utay began playing Dr. Wilhelm Rolf, the mad scientist Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) always kept on hand to do his bidding, usually some very strange being as Rolf is apparently a genius who can do anything with medical science. His loyalty to Stefano and his offspring has been legendary, with Utay returning to the role only a few years ago after playing him consistently for six years.

Now, Rolf will be played by Richard Wharton, an actor who had a small role on The Young and the Restless decades ago. Wharton also has many primetime credits to his name, including Criminal Minds, American Crime Story, NCIS, and Nip Tuck.

Utay had made a name for himself as a character actor before joining DOOL, and was best known for his recurring role on the classic NBC sitcom Night Court where he played Phil Sanders from 1984-1992.

What Will Rolf Be Up To Now?

Dr. Rolf is famous in Salem not just as Stefano’s right-hand doctor, but also as the man who can bring back just about anyone from the dead. Rolf’s medical technology has allowed him to revive EJ DiMera (Daniel Feuerriegel), Will Horton (Chandler Massey), and Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), among others. Sadly, Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) told Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) that not even Rolf could bring back Abigail DiMera (Marci Miller), but we will see if that is actually true.

Rolf is also the man who figured out how to inject the essence of Princess Gina into Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) and Stefano into Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols). He even tried to impregnate Kayla Johnson so she could give birth to a brand-new Stefano. Rolf is also responsible for the serum that drove Abigail crazy the last time and made Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) believe she was really Renee Dumonde, so who knows what he could be up to with this go-around.
