Days of Our Lives star Camila Banus got to show her dramatic chops this week when her character, Gabi Hernandez, learned that her frenemy and former BFF Abigail DiMera had died.

Days of Our Lives’ Gabi’s History With Abby

Many forget that Gabi and Abby (Marci Miller) were once the best of friends, but it was Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) who got in their way. When Gabi seemed to steal Chad from Abby for a while, that was the end of their friendship, but that didn’t mean Gabi wasn’t heartbroken to learn she died.

Yes, Gabi has fallen in love quite a few times since her days with Chad, specifically with twins Stefan O. DiMera and Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash), but Chad still holds a special place in her heart and the work Banus does holds a special place in the actress’ heart.

Camila Banus Is Happy And Grateful

The day Gabi’s heartbreaking scenes aired, Banus took to Instagram with a short video in her dressing room looking her Gabi Chic best in two different outfits. She was then compelled to write everything she is grateful for, even apparently Covid protocols, in a long message next to the video.

“Due to new protocols, getting into character now feels more like I am working on a long running theater show. I go back to ‘an actor prepares’ every morning with my rituals,” Banus wrote. “Our job has so many unpredictable twists and turns but I am so grateful to be an actor.

So grateful to work on DAYS. One of the most common questions I get is ‘who is my favorite person to work with on the show ?’ Hands down my answer will always be THE CREW. They are my family, my moms, sisters, brothers, dads, uncles, cousins, they make me love my job.”

Banus has come and gone from DOOL several times over the years, with Gabi running away to Mexico in 2020 when it seemed her life was in danger. She also had a stint in jail for killing Nick Fallon in which fans didn’t see Gabi or Banus of over a year. However, she remains a large part of the show today and has now entered into yet another romance with Li Shin (Remington Hoffman).
