Days of Our Lives Star Marci Miller Did Not Expect Abby To Be Killed

Days of Our Live star Marci Miller made her own choice to leave the role of Abigail DiMera behind and it was not the first time she had done so. However, the first time Miller left, she was replaced with her predecessor, Kate Mansi, and then Abby and Chad were sent to Paris where they even starred in their own app series.

Head Writer Ron Carlivati has said he was finding it hard to write for a couple when one-half of it had two actresses who couldn’t or wouldn’t commit to long-term contracts so he decided to kill Abby off. Whether this is a permanent murder or not remains to be seen as this is DOOL and few characters truly stay dead. However, Abigail certainly seemed dead in some truly heartbreaking scenes.

We saw her dead body in the morgue as first Chad DiMera said goodbye and then Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Deveraux cried over their daughter and said their farewells.

Abby’s Death Came As A Shock To Marci Miller

When Miller made the decision to leave DAYS for a second time, she never imagined the show would kill the character she invested so much in.

“I just had a really hard time with the decision honestly. I mean, there are a variety of opinions about how to handle this. I knew I couldn’t stick around and be on contract. I knew that,” Miller told Soap Opera News. “I have no idea what Kate’s [Mansi] schedule looked like or anything but I honestly thought that they would recast and should recast, that was my opinion. I felt like they should have recast the character with a woman who was going to be able to stick around for a good amount of time to continue to tell that story. I was floored.”

Even the week she taped her last scenes, it felt weird on the set. “It was a really eerie feeling on set that whole last week, even Deidre Hall [Dr. Marlena Evans] stopped me in the hall and she was like, ‘I feel like somebody really, actually died.’ It was emotional and eerie and strange.”

Of course, she was told that death isn’t always death on a soap, especially in Salem, so one never knows. Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives weekdays to see if Abby ever pops up again.
