Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Why Kate Mansi Didn’t Return As Abigail

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Why Kate Mansi Didn't Return As AbigailDays of Our Lives spoilers reveal Salem dealing with the death of Abigail DiMera this week as news of her murder spreads. It marks the end of Marci Miller’s latest stint on the soap as it has been rotating Abigails between two actresses for several years.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Two Different Abigails

Billy Flynn has struck gold twice with pairings, specifically two totally different Chad DiMera and Abigail DiMera pairings. The chemistry between Flynn and Kate Mansi was undeniable as Chabby became a super couple and parents. They survived being tied to a burning bed by Ben Weston’s Necktie Killer after Ben delivered Abby’s baby, thinking it was his. Of course, Thomas turned out to be Chad’s.

Mansi and Flynn’s Chabby even made it onto the DOOL app series featuring Chad and Abby’s lives living and working in Paris. But when the couple returned to Salem, Marci Miller was playing the role, as she had during another one of Mansi’s departures from the soap. This time around, Miller chose to leave the role again to spend more time with her one-year-old daughter, so why couldn’t DAYS just bring back Mansi and not have to kill Abigail? It turns out the reason is very much why Abgail was killed.

DOOL Head Writer Wants A Permanent Abby

Since Miller couldn’t commit to a contract and DAYS Head Writer Ron Carlivati didn’t want to keep writing for Chad with Abigail conveniently out of town, he had to do something else. He also knew that it wasn’t the right time to break up Chad and Abby due to outside forces, but he was also aware hiring Mansi to play the character would leave him in the same situation of never having a permanent Abby.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Why Kate Mansi Didn't Return As Abigail

“Kate has been willing to come back,” Carlivati said in the June 22, 2022, issue of Soap Opera Digest. “But, may not necessarily want to come back on contract, so you risk being in the same position that then Kate leaves and what do we do. Then the option would be to recast yet again with someone who maybe is willing to be here on a more permanent basis but then you’re dealing with a new face.”

Well, DAYS fans have dealt with new Abigails before, so why not now? “We’ve been very lucky in recasting Abigail, but you don’t always know if that’s going to work out. So, ultimately we decided to kill the character.”

Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives weekdays to see how this story plays out.
