Love After Lockup Spoilers: A Successful Franchise Continues to Grow
The first season of Love After Lockup first aired on Friday nights and grew steadily from there in spite of the fact that the show existed with practically no help from marketing.
In its second season, with a cast of fresh faces, the show’s popularity continued to grow and, in 2019, gave birth to the spin-off series, Life After Lockup.
Life After Lockup follows couples who have managed to survive their post-prison release period and are making a go of life as ex-cons.
“These are real people, real relationships,” said Sharp of the show.
And now, in 2021, comes news of a new spinoff, Love During Lockup.
Love After Lockup Spoilers: The New Spinoff and the Secret to ‘Lockup’ Franchise Success
Currently in production and set to premiere on We in January, the new Love After Lockup spinoff series, Love During Lockup will follow these relationships as they begin.
With the show’s predecessors Life After Lockup and Love After Lockup reaching the top of the We network’s food chain, the franchise has breathed new life into the network.
For some viewers, the shows are almost comical, but there is a dark side to the franchise.
Though the cast members have been convicted on lighter crimes, such as robbery or drug-related crimes, and not crimes such as rape or murder, there have been two cast members that have died of drug overdoses.
So, the shows have a dark side but, they’re also about love and redemption – real issues, for real people and that is likely where the show’s success comes from.
Love After Lockup Spoilers: Hope for the Good Life to Follow
While the casting for such dating shows as The Bachelor series has been populated mostly by people trying to make names for themselves and become influencers, according to Sharp, there is no such nonsense within the Lockup franchise.
Lauren Gellert, who is We network’s executive vice president of development and original programming, told Variety that she thinks the secret to the success of the franchise is “hope.”
“The hope for the good life to follow — the hope for love, the hope for a relationship.”
