Days of Our Lives (DOOL) Spoilers: Suzanne Rogers’ Horrific Medical Crisis, Why Maggie’s Been Gone for 6 Months
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Maggie Horton Kiriakis is returning. The character’s portrayer, Suzanne Rogers, is finally back after six months. Fans have been wondering why Maggie was taken off-screen, but this time, it’s not head writer Ron Carlivati’s fault. Rogers explains she had a freak accident and shared the details.
Fans Blaming Head Writer
DOOL spoilers reveal that when Maggie disappeared, fans automatically blamed the head writer. It was understandable as Carlivati has gotten rid of a lot of fan favorites. However, this time, Carlivati is innocent and it was not his choice to temporarily write off Maggie.
One of the main issues viewers had is why Maggie hadn’t noticed that her own daughter seemed to disappear. That might be answered when Maggie finally appears in scenes during the week of October 4.
DOOL Spoilers: Freak Accident
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, Rogers explained that her six-month health crisis began with a freak accident. The actress told the magazine,
“It was one of those freaky accidents of swallowing a pill and it not going down. It was last November 18th… I’m doing two things at one time. I remembered I hadn’t taken one of my horse pills, so I took the pill and I guess I didn’t drink enough water and I thought, ‘Gosh, that didn’t go down.’ So I drank some more water. Well, then it wasn’t going up or down and I got to the point where I thought, ‘I’m not breathing really well here’… I managed to get to the phone and call 911…”
Waking Up Two Weeks Later
Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that once the EMTs put an oxygen mask on Rogers, she passed out. When she woke up in the hospital, she was shocked to find out two weeks had passed. Of course, Rogers just wanted to get out of the hospital because she was scared of getting COVID-19. That is when doctors told her that she needed rehab.
Back in the 80s, Rogers was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis and the symptoms had resurfaced.
Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Months in Hospital
Rogers was not able to leave the hospital until January 4, 2021. Since it was at the height of COVID, no visitors were allowed. Rogers spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s all by herself. However, executive producer Ken Corday would call Rogers to cheer her up, which she is incredibly thankful for.
Even though Rogers was released from the hospital in January, she had a long way to go in order to be well enough to return to work. Rogers would not go back to the set until late May and had to wear a wig. (Rogers woke up in the hospital with scabs all over her head). Rogers explained that she had just lost her mom, so everything snowballed and she just couldn’t fight the illness.
“I think my defenses were down, that I didn’t have the fight I needed to get through this. But then I got it back. I mean, it was horrific. I was like, ‘This can’t be me.’ Somebody who was always physical and exercised, a dancer. I thought, ‘Well, I guess this is something I have to learn from and appreciate every day even more than I did before.’”
