Jake Harris Chooses Arrest over Getting a Sobriety Test
Former “Deadliest Catch” star Jake Harris was arrested for another DUI, making it the second time that the reality TV star has landed behind bars for the offense. The first time was in 2019.
Harris starred in the discovery channel reality show about Alaskan crab fishermen until 2012, two years after the death of his father Phil. Phil Harris suffered a severe stroke while offloading C. opilio crab in port at Saint Paul Island on January 29, Alaska and died soon afterward. Harris’ brother, Josh, continues to appear on the show as captain of the family ship, the Cornelia Marie.
Fox News reported the arrest after getting the information from a representative for the Washington State Patrol who confirmed that Harris was arrested and booked for Felony DUI, driving with revoked/suspended license and driving without an ignition interlock, even though he was required to have one in his vehicle.
TMZ also reported on the arrest stating that the former reality TV star was caught near Mount Vernon, Washington last week after the Dodge Journey 86 he was driving was clocked doing 86 MPH in a 70 zone. The outlet reported that Harris drove an extra 3 miles after cops attempted to pull him over in order to stop in a safe location.
According to reports, the police learned that his license had been revoked when they confronted him. After his previous arrest for DUI in 2019, he was ordered to install an ignition interlocking device. Harris, however, did not have any such device in his car and explained to the police that it wasn’t installed in the vehicle he was driving because he had borrowed it from a friend.
Reports also state that the present officers noticed that he was repeating himself, appeared pale with bloodshot eyes and constricted pupils. Suspecting he was impaired, he was asked to take a sobriety test, which he refused, choosing to go to jail instead. According to records seen by Fox News, Harris was released from the county jail on bond Tuesday after being booked on May 7.
Jake Harris’ First Time Behind Bars
The first time Harris had a run-in with the law, he was charged with driving under influence and possession with intent to manufacture or deliver heroin. The charges stemmed from an incident in which he reportedly refused to reveal himself to park rangers before taking off in an RV. State Troopers pursued him and forced him to stop. At the time it was reported that police found drugs and a stolen forearm inside the vehicle, leading to a sentence of 18 months.
