Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Prince William Met At Prince Philip Funeral? Here’s What Happened!
Royal family news suggest that weeks after the war over Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince William and Prince Harry are still at war. As a result, the funeral of Prince Philip resulted in speculation prior to the ceremony that the brothers would clash.
Did they meet up, and what happened? Get the latest royal family news about William and Harry below.
What Happened Between Prince Harry and William at Prince Philip Funeral?
It’s been more than a year since Prince Harry, 36, left not just the United Kingdom but the royal family with his wife Meghan Markle, 39, and their son Archie, 1-year-old. Since then, the couple and their toddler have settled in California.
But it was Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey that reportedly resulted in a feud between Meghan Markle’s husband and Prince William. That caused all eyes to be on William and Harry during the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip.
Back in the U.K. for the first time since March 2020, Harry traveled alone because Meghan is pregnant for the second time and advised not to travel by her doctor. Harry was spotted at the funeral, held at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on Saturday.
Harry and William walked in the group of royal family members behind Prince Phlip’s coffin, which was placed in a customized Land Rover that Philip had designed. Joining the brothers was their father, Prince Philip.
However, William and Harry were not standing side-by-side. Instead, reportedly as decreed by Queen Elizabeth, their cousin, Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne, stood between the brothers.
Can A Family Funeral End Problems Between Harry and William?
Even before his interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry had problems in his relationships with royal family members. Talking with Oprah, Harry claimed that those problems resulted from being “trapped” inside the royal family.
But royal family expert Katie Nicholl revealed that the royal family longed to have Philip’s funeral be the occasion for easing the tensions between the brothers.
“Well, I think there is every hope that this will be the beginning of the thawing of the rift between William and Harry,” said Nicholl. “We all know that it has not been an easy year, we know about the royal rift at the heart of the monarchy. We know that William and Harry have had a lot of problems over the past year and not least in the last month in the fallout of Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview.”
But even though William and Harry did encounter each other at the funeral, other royal family experts contended that the rift was permanent.
The brothers’ former friendship “remains in the tatters,” said one royal insider.
In particular, Harry’s and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey reportedly infuriated William. He was disturbed by the allegations that someone in the royal family made racist comments and that William’s wife Kate Middleton had caused Meghan to cry prior to her wedding.
William was notably angry at a public event following the interview, announcing, “We’re very much not a racist family.”
From a public perspective, though, it appeared that the brothers had at least somewhat repaired their relationship prior to the funeral. Harry, William, and Kate were spotted leaving Prince Philip’s funeral together.
Although the brothers walked separately in the procession and were not seated together during the service, they did reunite with Kate after. William even seemed to wait for Harry outside the chapel so that they could leave together.
