However, she soon wonders if this could be for the best. The actress explains that it’s not to hurt Abigail DiMera (Marci Miller), it’s to give Gwen the family she’s always craved.

DOOL spoilers reveal that when Gwen slept with Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn), fans knew what would happen next. The manipulator would turn up pregnant and use it to tear apart “Chabby.” That is happening but not in the way that viewers expect. The pregnancy isn’t fake and isn’t part of her scheme. In fact, O’Brien told Soap Opera Digest that the pregnancy ruins everything, not just for Gwen, but for everyone. Surprisingly, Gwen’s not interested in causing Abigail any further pain.

At first, Gwen’s goal was to destroy Abigail so she could have everything the young woman had. However, Gwen now realizes she was wrong about everything. She could have had the instant family she always craved. Not only would she have gotten a father and stepmother, but two half-siblings. They all could have become close but instead, Gwen has ruined that from ever happening.

However, she starts to get another idea after Abigail offers to take her to get an abortion. Gwen wonders if this baby could give her what she has always wanted since childhood.

Even though Gwen went about her goal in the completely wrong way, at the core, Gwen just wanted a family and to be loved. She has tried “stealing” Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) as her father. However, it’s tearing apart Jack and Abigail’s relationship. Gwen wonders if she could actually have her own family and still get what she’s always craved. The actress told Soap Opera Digest that the decision isn’t to hurt Abigail. O’Brien explained,

“.. she starts thinking that she can have the opportunity now to create her own family and, in turn, maybe won’t even need to have this family here. That’s when the notion comes to her and her wheels start turning to perhaps look at what life would be like if she were to keep the child. And it’s not to hurt Abigail; it’s for herself, to redeem herself and be the mother to this child that she, herself, never had in this life.”
