Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) Spoilers: Alums Join Cast of Own’s Queen Sugar Season 6
Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers and updates reveal two former casts of DOOL landed a gig on OWN’s Queen Sugar. Tammy Townsend and McKinley Freeman, formerly known as Wendy Reardon and Evan Sayers, respectively, on DOOL will appear on the sixth season of Ava DuVernay’s drama, which is set in Louisiana and based on the book by Natalie Baszile.
Townsend Joins as Series Regular While Freeman Plays Recurring Character
Townsend joined the show as a new series regular and Freeman as a recurring character. The drama, which is currently being filmed in New Orleans, centers on the three Bordelon siblings and their extended family. The Bordelon siblings are portrayed by Kofi Siriboe, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Rutina Wesley.
Townsend will play the role of Billie, the daughter of the Bordelon family friend Prosper Denton (Henry G. Sanders), who returned to St. Joseph (a fictional community in Louisiana) in 20 years to care for her father. Meanwhile, Freeman will play the character of Dominic, a cultural anthropologist and a possible love interest for Nova Bordelon, portrayed by Rutina Wesley. Townsend and Freeman will be joining Greg Vaughan, a former cast member of “Days of Our Lives,” who also appears on the “Queen Sugar.”
Paula Jai Parker also joins the cast as Celine, a single mother of a 10-year-old son. Aunt Violet takes them under her wing so they could start a new life in St. Josephine. Meanwhile, Marquis Rodriguez takes on the role of Isaiah, a college student who becomes a friend of Micah West.
All Women Directing Team
Queen Sugar is slated to return to the screen for its sixth season in the fall. Nine directors have been added to the show namely, Stephanie Turner, Shaz Bennett, Shari L. Carpenter, Marie Jamora, Keisha Rae Witherspoon, Cierra Glaude, Carmen Marron, Bertha Bay-Sa Pan, and Lisa France.
The latest addition is a testament to DuVernay’s commitment to hiring only women for the show’s directing team. This brings the total number of women directors of the series to 42 filmmakers. The drama’s Season 5 was executive produced by Ava DuVernay, Paul Garnes, Anthony Sparks, and Oprah Winfrey. It is produced by Harpo Films and ARRAY Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Townsend joined the cast of “Days of Our Lives” as a series regular from 1994 to 1996. She also appeared in other movies and TV series such as “Family Matters,” “Grown Ups,” “Rock Me, Baby,” “Sherri,” and “K.C. Undercover.” Meanwhile, Freeman appeared on Award-winning shows such as “All My Children,” “General Hospital” and “Bones.”
