Honey Boo Boo: Mama June Destroyed Daughter’s Success?
Honey Boo Boo stole our hearts on “Toddlers & Tiaras,” and we adored the cute, chubby child even more when she got her show, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” Although “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” also starred family members like her mother June Shannon, known as Mama June, Honey was definitely the star.
Alana Thompson lost her spotlight, though, when her mother got her very own show, “Mama June: From Not to Hot.” Dealing with health concerns and the end of her marriage to Sugar Bear, June hoped to shed pounds and find love again.
As her daughters Pumpkin as well as Alana Thomspon stayed in the background, June got a new body through surgery, workouts, and diet. But something went terribly wrong, with drug addiction rumors soaring. Now Mama June is back in the spotlight. But what does the future hold for Honey Boo Boo?
Mama June Admits Spending $1 Million on Illegal Drugs
Mama June Shannon currently is getting ready to star in yet another show. In the process, Honey Boo Boo’s mother revealed that June and boyfriend Geno Doak spent almost $1 million on drugs as she struggled with addiction.
“Mama June: Road to Redemption” will give Honey Boo Boo’s mother the opportunity to share her challenges with her drug abuse.
“I would say the last year of our addiction, probably a good $900,000 [was spent on drugs],” confessed June. “So much money was sent to our dope man.”
June recalled sending $80,000 to her drug dealer in a single transaction. What caused her to go to rehab at last?
When a $150,000 expected payment was delayed and she couldn’t get high when she wanted to, June chose to go to rehab.
“I went into rehab with $1.75 to my name,” said Honey Boo Boo’s mother. “And I came out with nothing.”
Honey Boo Boo’s Mother: Life After Rehab
Clean for more than a year, June says she still has challenges. Like many, the coronavirus pandemic made working challenging.
Without going into details, Honey Boo Boo’s mother said she had to return to “old hustles” for money.
“It’s so much easier for me to say, ‘Hey, I don’t want to feel this,” she said, hinting at drug use. But she added, “I don’t want to go back to that. I don’t want to have my bank accounts overdrawn.”
The problem facing June: Drug addiction has become a familiar solution when the world gets uncomfortable. In 2019, she and her boyfriend were arrested for suspicion of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
That same year, Honey Book shared a throw-back Instagram post from the heights of her “Toddler and Tiara” days:
The photo of a happy, gorgeous little girl who was the center of her family makes a sad contrast to the young woman trying to deal with a mother caught up in drug addiction.
The TV show “Mama June: Family Crisis” showed June confessing to one of her daughters, Pumpkin, that she and her then-boyfriend were spending $2,500 daily because of their addiction to meth.
“I was around drugs my whole life,” added June. “Addiction does run in my family.” As for the impact on Honey Boo Boo and her other children? They all stopped talking to their mother, admitted June.
“My kids stopped talking to me … so now our thing is that we’re trying to redeem our kids and it’s been a process. Addiction is selfish, but my recovery is selfish also.”
However, Honey Boo Boo seems to have forgiven her mother. She even shared a look at Mama June’s show on her own Instagram:
“Tune in tonight for the Season Premiere of Mama June: Road To Redemption 9/8c on @wetv,” wrote Honey Boo Boo.
Has Mama June truly found “redemption,” or does she and therefore her daughters have more challenges to face? We hope that this show has a happy ending that includes the beautiful little girl who brightened our lives on “Toddlers and Tiaras.”
