Deadliest Catch Captains Film COVID PSA (VIDEO)
Deadliest Catch news reveals that the show’s stars are speaking out about a topical and serious danger confronting everyone today, whether on land or sea: Covid.
“We have one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet — but right now, it’s dangerous everywhere,” says Captain Sig Hansen one of the stars of Deadliest Catch. In a new PSA the captain discusses the dangers of the sea and the dangers of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
It seems that each day there is new news to report of statistics, variants, deaths, etc. As the threat of the variants gets more serious in the U.S., Discovery Channel has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to get the word out about how to properly protect against this lethal threat.
To that end they are highlighting the importance of mitigation actions that slow the spread of the virus, including wearing face masks.
Deadliest Catch News: An Important PSA
Captains Sig Hansen and Josh Harris from Deadliest Catch star in the new PSA from the nation’s health protection agency. The collaboration is designed to urge key demographics to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
“Being a ship captain means being prepared for anything,” says Hansen. “We’re the ones responsible for making sure the crew makes it to port safe and sound,” Harris adds.
“We have one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet — but right now, it’s dangerous everywhere,” Hansen continues, holding up his own mask. “So when medical experts say to wear your mask to fight the pandemic, wear your mask.”
Deadliest Catch News: New Covid PSA
It’s hard to argue with either man, both have the cred to tell us what is dangerous and what is not and if they say to wear a mask, it’s a message that should be heeded.
But the medical experts also weigh in on the PSA. Dr. Jay C. Butler, the CDC’s Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases, endorses the captains’ message.
“Sig and Josh are right,” he says. “Safety comes first, and the best way to prevent the spread of COVID is to wear your mask. Mask up, America.”
Mask wearing has been encouraged as a way to slow the spread of COVID-19 since the earliest days of the pandemic. Dr. Anthony Fauci is President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser and according to him, doubling up on masks or making sure that they have a “tighter fit” can reduce transmission by 96.5%, according to a CDC study.
