This Is Us spoilers reveal that we are right in the middle of season 5. However, the show’s ending has been in the creator’s mind for quite some time. He previously shared that “the Pearson story will basically come to a close” in season 6. While we would love the show to go on forever, it’s always better to leave viewers with memories of a wonderful show that tugged on our heartstrings rather than one that went on too long. Six seasons sounds like the perfect length of time.

Actor Wishes Show Would Last 70 Years

This Is Us spoilers reveal that Hartley isn’t ready for the show to end. If it were up to him, he would plan on it running on NBC for 70 years! Of course, he never wants the the show to get to a point where it no longer resonates with fans. He told Entertainment Weekly,

“… as long as we’re still telling this story and as long it’s compelling. If it takes 70 years to tell this story, I’ll be around for the next 30 of them, probably 40. But I love how the story is unfolding and I love being a part of it. So I’ll do it as long as they let me.”

This Is Us Season Finale: Amazing, Magical And Hopeful

The producers began making plans for the season finale a few years ago. As for the creator, he has been very open with the stars. In fact, it is teased that Fogleman turns into a little kid when he gets into storytelling mode and loves putting the puzzle pieces together in the writer’s room. Hartley explains that no matter where they are in the series, even when it was at its infancy, Fogleman always has some kind of idea where the story is going. As for the vibe of the ending, Milo Ventimiglia said that the finale will be “amazing, magical and hopeful.”

Hartley gave a hint on what fans can expect with the series finale and that is don’t count on anything you’re expecting. He said that the ending will be “very unpredictable

“The way that the story has been told to me and the way that it ends seems like the right way to ‘end’ it. Just like life, everything does end, doesn’t it? I think it’s full. You’re going to have a full heart, just because by that time you will have watched these people and all of their journeys for such a long time. When you invest that much as an audience member, you’ll fill up completely, but in a satisfying way… It’s definitely an emotional journey, and we have a lot of laughs to be told in it. I mean, there’s funny stuff coming up as well.”

This is Us season 5 has been delayed due to COVID-19 related production issues. A new episode will air on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
