Sister Wives News: Janelle Brown And Kody’s Crooked Family Tree
Sister Wives spoilers reveal that cast member Kody Brown is a member of the Apostolic United Brethren which is a subgroup of fundamentalist Mormonism. It was after joining the group that Kody Brown began practicing polygamy, one of the sect’s tenets.
In 1990, Sister Wives’ Kody Brown married his first wife, Meri Brown and in 1993 he married his second wife, Janelle Brown. A year later he married third wife Christine Brown and in 2010 he brought his fourth wife Robyn Brown to the fold.
Since Kody Brown’s first marriage he has spawned 15 children and adopted Robyn’s three children from a previous marriage.
Sister Wives Updates: Janelle Brown & Kody’s Past
Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown, who converted to fundamentalist Mormonism before marrying, has hinted that her own family members tried to get her to leave Kody Brown. At that time Janelle was pregnant with the Brown family’s first child, Logan Brown.
Janelle Brown was raised in the mainstream Mormon church, aka the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which does not practice polygamy, ie, plural marriage.
In fact, Janelle was first married to Meri’s brother, Adam Barber, and this is how the group met. When her marriage deteriorated, Janelle developed friendships with polygamists in Bountiful, Utah. Before long she also was practicing polygamy or, “the principle.”
In the book Becoming Sister Wives, Janelle wrote that when she visited Kody and Meri in Montana, she was “called” to fundamentalist Mormonism and eventually married Kody.
Sister Wives Cast: Janelle Brown’s Family Wasn’t On Board
Kody Brown’s first wife Meri Brown and Janelle didn’t get along well and Janelle felt more like a roomie than a wife. Then, when Janelle became pregnant she visited Salt Lake City with Kody and his third wife, Christine, and some of her family attempted to convert her back to mainstream Mormonism.
Janelle Brown’s maternal grandfather was one of the relatives who never spoke to her again, but in an ironic twist of fate, her mother Sheryl Usher married Kody’s father, the late polygamist patriarch Winn Brown.
Janelle’s mom was featured in early episodes of Sister Wives, many years ago. Janelle revealed on the TLC reality TV show that her mom visited her and was introduced to Kody’s father. In the beginning Janelle’s mom wasn’t a fan of polygamy, but after meeting the Brown Family she was so on board she married Kody’s dad. So, Janelle’s kids’ grandparents are one in the same.
As such, Sheryl and Janelle kept their relationship and managed to share a new religion and lifestyle as well as an extended family.
