Doubling Down With The Derrico’s tackles the great nanny debacle.  Some people struggle to raise one child so you can imagine the challenges brought on trying to raise 14 kids. That’s the reality for the Derrico family.

Doubling Down With The Derrico’s Mom Karen is a stay-at-home mother, and Deon Derrico is a real estate investor. Together they share 14 beautiful children but as can be expected they are feeling the pressure of raising a tremendous brood.

In a sneak peek of the fam’s new TLC’s series Doubling Down with the Derricos, People magazine provides a glimpse into what the loving parents are facing as they get emotional after the complicated birth of triplets.

“My mother was here to help us with the children, but she had to go back home to Detroit,” Deon says. “This is a lot. Especially when Mommy’s role is split. We have to get help.”  Truer words were never spoken!

Karen is visiting the newborn triplets, who had heart surgery while trying to raise her other children. Even though she is stressed out, Karen is reluctant to bring in help. Deon throws down a double reality check when he says, “We have no choice. I can’t even go to the hospital with you right now.”

The couple’s children were all conceived naturally: two singletons, quintuplets, triplets, and two sets of twins.

“I feel like me having a nanny is telling them, ‘Mommy can’t do this all by myself,’ ” Karen says admitting that she is afraid people will judge her, “I think I’m projecting what I think others are saying to me, for me getting a nanny.”

About her overwhelming situation, she says, “It’s everything. It’s the going back and forth, it’s the procedure that Dawson has to have. I just want them at home where they can nurse and I don’t have to worry about this.”

“As a mother, I’m just scared and nervous,” she adds.  Deon replies, “We go through things so we can be brought closer together … I love you.”

Am I right in saying that nobody in their right mind would judge Karen Derrico for having a nanny? She should actually have about ten nannies, right? It is amazing what this strong lady has been through already and she deserves all the help she needs.
