Meghan Markle Threw Public Money at Frogmore Cottage and Didn’t Even Plan to Stay in England!
According to multiple media reports in the U.K. Meghan Markle used taxpayer money to renovate the property given to she and Harry on their wedding day. There’s nothing wrong with that per se, given the fact that this taxpayer money was part of the money the U.K. sets aside for the Monarchy. However, information from a royal photographer suggests that despite Queen Elizabeth’s amazing generosity, Meghan Markle had absolutely no intention of living for long at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
As many may or may not know, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry received an amazing real estate portfolio as part of their wedding gifts from Queen Elizabeth. In that portfolio was Frogmore Cottage, which was built in 1801. Due to its age and the purposes to which it had been previously used, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle believed the house needed to be renovated in order to make it livable. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex therefore spent about $3 Million U.S. dollars to do so.
However, if the claims of the royal photographer in question are true, then one has to ask why Prince Harry and Meghan chose to go ahead and spend this extremely large amount of money. If Harry and Meghan truly had no plans to stay at Frogmore, how did the couple benefit from shelling out that kind of cash?
That question is especially relevant considering the fact that part of the terms of “Megxit” was the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have to pay the British taxpayers back for that sum. In other words, Prince Harry and Meghan literally had nothing to gain by renovating Frogmore if they had no plans to stay and they knew they’d have to pay back whatever they spent.
Of course, some might suggest that the fact Queen Elizabeth forced Harry and Meghan to agree to pay back $3 Million in renovations was simply justice. Perhaps Meghan and Harry weren’t thinking of the British taxpayer at all. Perhaps Harry and Meghan simply felt the renovations were worth it even if they only planned to stay for a short time. In other words, Harry and Meghan didn’t give it a second thought considering the fact that the cost of renovations wasn’t initially coming out of their budget.
Ah well, the bottom line is that Queen Elizabeth eventually laid the smack down on Prince Harry and Meghan and the two must pay back every penny.
As many may recall, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to step back from their royal duties amidst a process that became known as “Megxit.” As part of that deal, Prince Harry and Meghan had to give up some of their titles and could no longer use the word “Royal” as part of their personal branding. In terms of Frogmore Cottage, the two won’t have to give up their real estate and indeed, Harry and Meghan have said that they intend to use the property as a “home base” whenever they visit the U.K.
