Daniel Dae Kim Has Coronavirus, Asymptomatic During Filming
The Good Doctor actor Daniel Dae Kim portrays Dr. Jackson Han on the show. His character was recruited to help treat patients during a flu epidemic. While COVID-19 isn’t influenza, it is ironic that the roles are reversed. Now, he’s the patient who is infected with a virus during a global pandemic.
Daniel Dae Kim Tested Positive For COVID-19
On Thursday, The Good Doctor actor posted a 10-minute video on Instagram to update his fans and followers. He explained that he was tested for COVID-19 and it came back positive. However, he assured everyone that at the moment, he is only experiencing mild symptoms.
Daniel Dae Kim Has Mild Symptoms of Coronavirus
The actor said that when coronavirus started making headlines and television shows halted production, he returned to his family in Hawaii. It was on the airplane when he first noticed symptoms.
Initially, it was just scratchiness in the back of his throat. Later, he started running a fever and had tightness in his chest. He went to get tested at a drive-thru facility in Honolulu, which revealed he contracted the coronavirus.
No Symptoms While Filming The Good Doctor
Kim explained that while filming The Good Doctor, he was asymptomatic. That means he was not experiencing any symptoms at all. He had no idea his body was getting ready to fight an infection.
Despite not having any symptoms during filming, it is possible that he unknowingly transmitted COVID-19 to others. In fact, CNN reported that asymptomatic carriers not only took fewer precautions, but had higher concentrated levels of the virus. Basically, it means that those with no symptoms have “more of the virus to give.”

While Kim was able to get tested, there are others who can’t seem to get confirmation of a coronavirus infection. Recently, some TV and soap stars shared their frustration over the limited test kits, one of which was Greg Rikaart (The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives). Despite not being able to get tested, Rikaart self-isolated to protect others.
Why He Shared Medical Diagnosis On Social Media
In his caption section of the Instagram post, Kim explained that it seems like he will be okay. However, he wanted to share his coronavirus diagnosis in the hopes that it would help others. He explained, “…I wanted to share my journey with you in the hopes that you find it informative or helpful. Hope you all stay safe, calm, and above all, healthy.”
