Will As The World Turns Alum Emmy Rossum Return on ‘Shameless’ Final Season?

Shameless - Emmy Rossum“Shameless” is due to return for its eleventh and final season on Showtime but many fans are wondering if they’ll see Emmy Rossum once again as Fiona Gallagher. The “As the World Turns” alum was last seen on the show’s season 9.

Showtime co-president of entertainment Gary Levine shed light on the matter in an interview with Deadline. He revealed that everyone who was on the latest season will return. He also hinted possible surprises when the show comes back for its last run.

When asked if the return of Rossum is part of those surprises, Levine said, “Too early to say. She would be welcomed with open arms but Emmy doesn’t owe us anything.”

“She did great for the show as the show did great for her, and it was a very amicable parting. So if she surprises us, it would be lovely,” he continued.

Levine’s Thoughts On The Show’s Cancellation

Levine admitted that it was a “tricky” decision ending the series especially when it’s one of the most popular and well-performing shows.

“Shameless has been such a great performer for us, and we just felt like, 11 seasons is a big fat number,” Levine explained.

“John and his people refresh it each year, and it still gets a huge audience for us as well as for that streaming services that run our reruns (Netflix). We just felt it was time, and we also liked the idea of giving John and Co. a chance to end it well, to be able to aim for that landing,” he continued.

Rossum Learns About Shameless’ Final Run

Meanwhile, Rossum is keeping herself busy with a project along with her husband, Sam Esmail on a drama that’s based on the life of L.A. model Angelyne. The actress has been part of the show for nine years when she played the eldest Gallager, Fiona.

She learned that “Shameless” was ending from Twitter and she wasted no time to react to the news.

“Just learned about Shameless on Twitter! Eleven seasons is ten more than most shows get! Bravo to an incredible run for a wonderful cast and crew,” Rossum tweeted.

The upcoming season will consist of 12 episodes. But unlike the other seasons, which were launched in the fall or January, “Shameless” season 11 is expected to air in the summer.
